Gayatri Sriram from Singapore has been performing for about 15 years at many important centres in the world. She is a student of Smt. Minal Prabhu of Kalakshetra. She opened her performance with Kauthvam. For varnam she chose a composition in Sanskrit – Sringaralola Muralidhara Gopimanohara – in ragamalika choreographed by her guru Smt. Minal Prabhu. This was followed by Ashtapadi Sakhiye Keshi Madana – from Jayadeva’s Gita Govindam, Tillana in Suddha Dhanyasi and Padam in Sahana. The Orchestral Ensemble consisted of Smt. Minal Prabhu – Nattuvangam, Vocal support by Sri Balasubramanya Sharma, Sri Gurumurthy on Mridangam, Sri Jayaram Kikkeri on Flute and Sri Prasanna Kumar on Rhythm and Morsing.
SOUTH INDIAN CULTURAL ASSOCIATION (SICA) is holding its first annual National level competitions in Bharatha Natyam for the award of SILVER CUP to the best young Bharatha Natyam Dancer. Reputed Bharatha Natyam Guru Smt. Hema Malini Arni has instituted the endowment with SICA in order to encourage young dancers to take to Bharatha Natyam. According to the Honorary Secretary of the South Indian Cultural Association, Hyderabad, these competitions will be held on Sunday 28th Feb 2016 from 9.30 am at the Conference Hall, first floor of Ravindra Bharathi, Saifabad, Hyderabad. Candidates who are in the age group of 15-25 years and who have undergone training in Bharatha Natyam from a Guru or from an Institution teaching Bharatha Natyam, are alone eligible to participate in these competitions.
